Commentary: Un recueil de quatre articles de Boxer : « The Affair of the ‘Madre de Deus’ (A Chapter in the History of the Portuguese in Japan) », « Some Aspects of Portuguese Influence in Japan », « Jan Compagnie in Japan, 1672-1674; or, Anglo-Dutch Rivalry in Japan and Formosa » et « Hosokawa Tadaoki and the Jesuits, 1587-1645 ». Le dernier texte nous intéresse puisqu’il porte sur les relations d’un Japonais, Hosokawa Tadoki, avec les jésuites. Selon Boxer, le Japonais a protégé les jésuites, probablement parce que sa femme est devenue chrétienne. Boxer étudie les relations entre Tadoki et les Jésuites à travers les lettres annuelles de la Société.
